Rufus was born in 1927. He passed away in 2005.
Rufus O. Spearman Sr., 78, formerly of 803 Highland Road, husband of the late Perilla Starr Hall Spearman, to whom he was married for 49 years, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Rufus O. and Lola Prince Spearman, Mr. Spearman was the former owner of Spearman Gas Mart in Easley, which he operated from 1968 until 1994, prior to which he was employed a a maintenance technician with Saco Lowell Corp. He attended First Wesleyan Church and served with the U.S. Army.
Surviving are four sons, Rufus O. Spearman Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C., Gary L. Spearman of St. Peters, Mo., Victor T. Spearman of Easley, and Bobby L. Spearman of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Donna M. Barker of Six Mile; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Spearman was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown, with the Rev. Lewis Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
