Biography

Francis Asbury Spearman was a prominent builder in the area around Anderson County, He was overseer for the construction of numerous homes developed by cotton mills for the employees, such as Piedmont, Ware shoals and Williamston. He was a long - time member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. but in later years Joined Big Creek Baptist Church at Williamston, which was directly across the road from his residence. He was active in the Red Shirt political organization of South Carolina after the War between the States. In which a major promotional effort was made to unseat the political machine in the State, which had ruled since the War and was directed by numerous appointees from the National Republican Party He was rather tall man, slender, with red hair and mustache. left handed and with a temper Compatible with his red hair, At the time of his death he owned 54 acre Farm on Big Creek near Williamston, which was usually cultivated by his Sons..., his Grandfather David Samuel Spearman and his Grandmother Nancy Clardy Spearman donated the property for Shiloh United Methodist Church and Cemetery
