Jesse was born on 26 Jan 1851 in Forsyth County, North Carolina to Edwin Nathaniel and Antenetta Elvira (Styers) Speas.[1]
The 1860 Census shows that Jesse was the 2nd of five children in the Speas household. They were living in Bethania, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Like most families in this area, they were farmers. The census also indicates that Jesse and his siblings attended school.[2]
The family was still in Bethania at the time of the 1870 Census. They have grown to include 9 children now.[3]
He married Dora Shores on 18 Nov 1880 in Winston Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was 29, and she was 25. The marriage record indicates that he was widowed, but there is no image to confirm that.[4]
Jesse died on 1 Jan 1933. He was still a resident of Bethania Township in Forsyth County, North Carolina.[1]
