Biography

Maizie was born in 1910. She was the daughter of Margaret and William Johnathon Speed ^[1] She married Percy William Eden in 1936 ^[2] They divorced in 1940

Of Brief Duration. Two undefended petitions for divorce were heard before Mr. Justice Fair. ln the petition Maizie Hilda Eden (Mr. Newbery) v. Percy William Eden (Mr. Robinson), Mr. Robinson stated that his client did not defend, but insisted on counsel making a statement that he considered that a separation order made in the Lower Court had been improperly obtained. Mr. Newbery said that three months after the marriage in July, 1936, the wife took proceedings for separation on the ground of persistent cruelty, and that though he paid no maintenance the husband had been several times later before the Court for molesting his wife, and his conduct was such that he had been medically examined. Petitioner gave evidence of the separation order in October, 1936, at Hastings, and said that only one week's maintenance had been paid to her since that time. She had lived apart from her husband from the time of the separation order. After having heard petitioner's father in corroboration, his Honor granted a decree nisi, with costs on the lowest scale against the respondent. ^[3]
