Research Notes

Marriage and Children Discrepancies

According to L. B. Templeton Elizabeth was john's second wife. The Laurensville Herald[1] makes note in 1850 of John's Marriage to Martha Spear, "Templeton, John married Martha Spear both of Laurens District on March 19, 1850, officiate by rev. C.B. Stewart." Is Martha, Elizabeth's sister or another Martha entirely? L. B. states that "His first wife was Martha. They had no children."

L.B. Templeton list's John and Elizabeth's Children in this order:

  1. Laura Evaline - He gives the Baptismal date of July 19, 1852 ("in Infancy" usually meaning in childhood.) So going on his notes she may well have been born prior to Samuel.
  2. Samuel C
  3. Emmaline
  4. John (James) Oliver
  5. Margaret Jane
  6. Caroline
  7. Eunice
