Of Letwell, Carlton, Yorkshire, formerly of Hodsock Priory, Blyth, Nottinghamshire.

Background

She was the 2nd daughter of Dorothy Stovin and Robert Spencer, Esq, of Hodsock Priory, Blyth, Nottinghamshire. She was born on 3 May 1769.

Early years

On 14 June 1796 at Austerfield, with her brother, Robert Spencer, they were Witnesses at the marriage of their sister, Mary Spencer, to their cousin, George Stovin.

Marriage and family

On 1 July 1800 she married widower Richard Taylor, Esq, of Letwell, Carlton, Yorkshire, with issue three sons and one daughter.

Death and burial

She died on 29 October 1810 of consumption, aged 41. She was buried on 1 November 1810 in the same vault as her husband's first wife, in St John the Evangelist Churchyard, Carlton-in-Lindrick. Her widower died in 1818 and was buried in the same vault with both his wives.

Monument

"In Memory of Elizabeth, Wife of Richd Taylor, Letwell, Who Departed this Life August 7, 1792, Aged 30 Years.

"Oh! Angry Death, Thou Wou’d Not Be Deny’d, But Broke the Bands of Love, so lately Ty’d.

"Also, Catherine his Second Wife Who Died Octr 29th 1810, Aged 41, Richd Taylor, Died Decr 22nd 1818, Aged 56."[1]
