A HEART ATTACK CAUSE OF DEATH OF E.I. SPENCER
Veteran Real Estate Dealer, Ill Since July 3, Passes Away
Edwin I. Spencer, age 68, for 41 years a Kansas real estate operator, 38 years of this time in Wichita, died of heart disease at his home, 128 South Estelle, at 10:20 o'clock this morning. He had been ill since July 3, following a motor trip on which over exertion in the heat is believed to have brought on his fatal illness.
After apparently improving, his condition changed for the worse Sunday and he steadily grew weaker until the end. Mr. Spencer was born near Fond du Lac, Wis. Leaving there in 1879, he went to Colorado and prospected at Leadville and Buena Vista.
To Kansas in 1884
He came to Kansas in 1884, engaging in the real estate and abstracting business in Russell County. He came to Wichita in 1887 and engaged in the business of buying and selling property and handling titles. In later years he handled real estate almost exclusively.
During the almost four decades of his business activity in Wichita Mr. Spencer has handled property involving the exhange of many thousands of dollars. Coming to Wichita at the heighth of the boom he was active in the development of this part of the country, and for many years specialized in the sale of Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado land. At the time of his death Mr. Spencer was an extensive holder of land in Old Mexico. Member Masonic Order
Mr. Spencer was a 32nd degree Mason and is a member of the Mexico City, Mex., Shrine.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters; Mrs. Irving De La Mater, 505 South Hillside; Mrs. H. D. Newton, Kansas City, and Mrs. Arch W. Jarrell, 2053 East Douglas. Funeral arrangements have not been made. The Mueller Funeral home is in charge.
E.I. Spencer Funeral At The Mueller Home Wednesday at 10 A.M.
Funeral services for E.I. Spencer, veteran Wichita real estate man, will be held at the Mueller Funeral Home at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. The Consistory service will be used at the funeral home, and Albert Pike Lodge of Masons will have services at the grave in the family lot in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be C.B. Dickson, R.O. Mills, J.E. Garnett, Dean Gordon, A.M. Hutton, I.N. Williams, W.R. Brush and John Blood.
The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
