Biography

Raymond Charles was born the second child and first son to Spencer-13915 l George Spencer and Law-2664 l Martha (Law) Spencer on January 25, 1893 at Berimba Street, Grafton, NSW

Ray was married at the age of 24 years to Marianne "Dot", daughter of William John and Margaret (nee MCAULAY) UNWIN on March 2, 1917 at the residence of the bride's parents at Goodwood Island, according to the rites of the Free Presbyterian Church. Officiant was Thomas Marrin McCLEAN. Witnesses to the marriage were Bruce GARDNER (cousin to 'groom) and Emily Mary NICHOLSON (aunt of 'groom)

Ray, after leaving his sugar cane farm at Empire Vale, moved to Ballina and bought a cordial maufacturing business. During this time he was a Councillor on the Ballina Shire Council and was Deputy Mayor for a number of years

Ray was killed in a motor vehicle accident near Eidsvold, Queensland on July 10, 1951 at the age of 58 years. He was on a holiday with a couple of friends (including Jack EASTER) and played lawn bowls at various places along the way. His body was brought back to and buried at East Ballina, NSW
