Death by angry turkey[2]

Per Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Spencer_(North_Carolina) Spencer died in 1794 while resting at his home on Smith's Creek in Anson County under unusual circumstances. "It is reported that he had not been well and between court sessions was resting at his home. While sitting on the porch, with a red cap on his head, he became sleepy and began to nod; a large turkey gobbler apparently regarded the moving cap as a challenge and attacked. The justice was thrown from his chair and suffered numerous scratches from which erysipelas developed.

Hi Karen, Rebecca Watkins was born about 1752 in Frederick County, Virginia, the daughter of Peter Watkins and Hannah Lewis. On April 29, 1768, Samuel Spencer received a land grant from North Carolina for land adjoining Peter Watkins in Anson County, North Carolina. Hannah Spencer was born about 1772 in Anson County, North Carolina, the daughter of Samuel Spencer Jr., 1734-1794 and Rebecca Watkins, 1752-1800.
I believe that Hannah Spencer was a base born child of Samuel and Rebecca and that they never married because he was still married to Phillipa Pegues or Sarah Daniel. I have no record of a Sybil Tisdale as wife of Samuel Spencer Jr.
In January 1783 Rutherford County, North Carolina, the County Court appointed the Honorable Samuel Spencer, Esq., as guardian of Hannah Spencer, daughter of Rebecca Watkins, now wife of Joel Blackwell. There are several records of Rebecca, but none in which she used the name Spencer, but always used Watkins until she married Joel Blackwell in about 1781.
"Samuel Spencer Jr. and Phillipa Pegues had children:
  • Claudius Pegues Spencer, 1767;
  • William Samuel Spencer, 1768;
  • Mary Spencer, 1770.
"Samuel Spencer Jr. and Sarah Daniel had child: Nancy Ann Spencer, 1781.
"Samuel Spencer Jr. was born January 21, 1733/34 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, died August 1794, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
"No records of a Joseph Spencer, but if Rebecca Watkins' child Hannah was illegitimate, which is strongly indicated, it seems unlikely that Joseph was a full brother, although a half brother, also illegitimate seems like a good possibility.

"Sincerely, James E. Hargraves

First wife, Phillipa Pegues may have died by 1968. Possible daughter, Mary Seldon Spencer, may have married Issac Jackson, who worked Samuel Spencer.

Son William may have had royalist sympathies and that may have been unpopular.

Spencer Historical & Genelogical Society has fallen on hard times, not a working site. Co founder Dana R Spencer was a student in same college my husband attended, (emails on file). Dana has passed, however, his legacy lives on, his contributions to Spencer group one dna will never be forgotten. And thanks to Jerry Spencer for his research in correcting the profiles of Sybil Tisdale and Col. Samuel Spencer.
There is a Deposition signed by Jerusha (Huntley Tisdale) Scott (Mother of Sybil (nee Tisdale) SPENCER) referring to her three daughters, and their husbands who were the plaintiffs in a law suit ...this info quoted here, seen at: https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/pegues/500/

Merge them, delete two of the William Spencers by unlisted, there have no merit.
Looks like he's got 4 sons named William Spencer..

I'm going to guess that a few of these are duplicates, likely all..

If you could take a look and see if they are and merge them, that would be great.
