BIOGRAPHY

Overview

Hannah was born to William Spencer and Diana Simpson in 1843, in Moor Town, Yorkshire, England. She was baptized on February 12, 1843, at St Matthew parish in Chapel Allerton, Yorkshire, England. Hannah was the second eldest of four children – one boy and three girls. In 1851, Hannah lived with her aunt and uncle, Ann and John Otty. It is unknown why Hannah did not live with her parents and three siblings. In 1851, her parents lived with her father’s mother, also named Hannah. Sadly, sometime after the 1851 census was taken, Hannah’s father died. William was only 33 and Hannah was only 8 years old. Over the years, Hannah’s mother remarried three more times, giving Hannah four half-siblings. In 1861, at the age of 18, Hannah was a servant in the William S. Walker household. Hannah married Edwin Wilson on August 12, 1865. Hannah was 22 and Edwin was 24 years old. Together they had four children – three boys and one girl. Sadly their third child, Alfred died in infancy. In 1881, Hannah died, leaving behind her widowed husband and three young children.
