Gilead never married, in 1861 he was a Farmer of 144 Acres employing 3 men. His cousin Harriet Smith, from Somerset, lived with him and 'kept house'. [2]
Gilead died at the age of about 74 on 19 October 1874 in Glamorgan, United Kingdom.[3]
