Biography

Joshua Spencer was a scholar at Trinity College, Dublin, in 1777.

Joshua Spencer was succeeded as MP for Sligo in 1815 by his brother, General Sir Brent Spencer, under an arrangement with their nephew, George Canning (created 1st Baron Garvagh in 1818), who had purchased the seat.

"Joshua Spencer, b. about 1760, brother to Gen. Sir Brent Spencer, K.B., M.P. for Sligo Borough from 1812 to 1815. He was a barrister of some eminence. . . "

Joshua Spencer was Escheator for Munster, after he left the Irish House of Commons.

Joshua Spencer was the elder brother. He had five sisters, one of whom was Sydney, and another sister was Jane.
