Mary was baptised on 23 July 1815 in Burwash. She was the daughter of Saul Spice and Sarah [1][2]Betsy Marchant[3][4]She had brothers Robert Spice who settled in Gingin, William and John who settled in the Upper Swan. Her father leased Ellen's Brook farm from George Leake.
She immigrated with her family on "Hooghly" arriving in Western Australia on 12th February 1830[5].
She married John Connolly on 20 Sep 1831 at Perth, Western Australia, Australia.[6][7]
She passed away in 1892 after a Paralytic stroke and is buried in Greenough Cemetery[8]. She left a large family of children to mourn her. The funeral took place on Sunday January 31, and nearly every one in the district attended to show their respect to her family. There were 27 carriages and traps and 57 people who arrived on horseback[9]. Her memorial inscription records her as Mary Connolly 1814 - 1892 Arr Hooghly 1830 Wife Of John 63rd Regiment Pioneer Mother.[10]
Research Notes
Note that the Billion Graves erroneously gives her name as "Sarah Jane" although the photograph and transcription correctly give it as "Mary".[10]
