Samuel was born in 1658 in Kittery, York County, Maine. Samuel's father was Thomas Spinney and his mother was Margery Randall. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Spinney and Elizabeth Knight; his maternal grandfather is Richard Randall and his maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Tozer. He had three brothers and a sister, named James, Thomas, John and Hannah. He was the second oldest of the five children. He had a half-sister named Mary. He died at the age of 78 in March 1736 in Kittery, York County, Maine.
