Biography

"Humphrey Spinning, Jr., probably nephew [not son] of former [Humphrey Spinning Sr], took the oath of fidelity at New Haven, Oct. 14, 1657. He had been taken by his relative 'when but a child' from his father in England. He married first, Oct. 14, 1657, Abigail, daughter of George Hubbard of Guilford, and soon demoed thither, where he was admitted as a planter on Mar.. 13, 1661/2. About 1666 he removed to Elizabeth Town, N.J. In 1670 he bought 280 acres there, and was a husbandman. He made his will in 1680, though it was not registered until Mar. 26, 1689... He married second, Anna _____."^[1]

1. John Spinning, born 11 Feb 1659 in New Haven, Connecticut. He married Rachel Savage 22 Aug 1694. John died 27 Feb 1712, at the age of 53.
2. Daniel, born 5 Feb 1661 and died 9 Sep 1690.
3. Abigail, born about 1662.
4. Edward Spinning.
5. Ebenezer Spinning.
6. Hannah, born about 1672 and died about 1750. In about 1690, she married George Royce (aka Ross) about 1690.
7. Elizabeth, born about 1675 in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. She married Daniel Price.
8. Benjamin, born 1685 in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. He married Margaret [family surname unknown] and died in 1731.

1689 March 29 - Spinage, Spening, Spining, Humphrey, of Elizabeth, husbandman; will of. Wife Anna. Sons - Daniel, Ebenezer, Edward, John, Benjamin; daughters - Abigaill, (H)Anna and Elizabeth. The wife and son Daniel executors of real and personal estate. Witnesses - George Ross and Edward Guy. Proved December 7, 1689. ^[3] 1689
