Biography

Mary Fidelia Spinning was born in 1836 in Cayuga County, New York. She was the daughter of Benjamin Spinning and Mary Hannah Woodworth.

In the 1840 census for Cato, Cayuga County, New York, her father's household included her brothers (1 male under 5 and 1 male 10-14), her father (1 male age 40-49), Mary (1 female under 5), a sister (1 female 5-9) and her mother (1 female 30-39).^[1]

Mary, along with her siblings Augustus Spinning, Charlotte Spinning, William M. Spinning and Sarah C. Spinning, were all minors when her mother Mary M. Spinning, widow of Benjamin Spinning, petitioned Cayuga County court for probate of Benjamin's will^[2] on 14 Nov 1844.

She was living in Cato in 1850.^[3] The household included Mary age 47, Augustus age 20, Mary age 13, William age 12, and Sarah age 10. In 1855,^[4] Mary, Augustus, Mary, William and Sarah were living in Cato. In 1860,^[5] The household included Mary age 58, Mary age 23, and William age 21. In 1865,^[6] She and her brother William were living with their brother Augustus.

Giles O Burk and Mary F Spinning were married in the Presbyterian Church in Meridian, Cayuga, New York on 24 May 1866.^[7] The locations of her home in lot 33 and the home of Giles Burk in lot 10 are depicted on Northern Cayuga County Maps.

Shortly after their marriage she obtained a low arm cane back and bottom ladies sewing rocker, made from a kit, which was handed down within the family.^[8]

They lived in Cato, Cayuga County, New York. In 1870^[9] her brother William Spinning was living with them. In 1875^[10] the family included daughter Mary age 5, and daughter Florence age 2 and in 1880^[11] daughter Mary M age 10, and daughter Florence A Burke age 7.

The family moved to Jordan, New York in May 1886.^[12] They were living in Elbridge in 1892 with daughter Mary age 22, and daughter Florence age 18.^[13]

In 1900 Giles and his wife Mary were living in Jordan Village, Elbridge township, New York.^[14]

She died 4 Oct 1902 in Jordan, New York^[15][16] and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan, Onondaga County, New York.^[17]
