Biography

William, son of William Allen Spoor and Susanna Baldinger, was born 21 December 1921 in Houston, Texas.^[1][2] He was raised in Houston, where his father was a life insurance salesman during the height of the Great Depression in 1930.^[3] The household included his parents Allen W. (age 45) and Susie Spoor (46), William A. (8), his siblings Mary C. (9) and Harry A. (5), his aunt Catherine Baldinger (60) and a cousin Mary E. Foster (19, daughter of his father's sister Addie Foster).^[3]

After his father died 19 October 1937,^[4] his mother Susie Baldinger Spoor (age 55) became head of household.^[5] The family lived on the same block as other members of the Baldinger clan.^[5] His sister Mary Kathrine (19) supported the family as a stenographer for a life insurance company—perhaps the company for which her father had worked.^[5] In addition to Susie and Mary Catherine, the home included William A. (17), Henry Allen (15) and Kathrine Baldinger (70).^[5]

After having completed three years of college, William enlisted 26 September 1942 in the United States Army Signal Corps at Houston as a private.^[6] He was promoted to the rank of 1st lieutenant prior to his discharge.^[2]

His mother Susie died 11 July 1883.^[7] Not much more can be known about their family until more records are released or a family member adds information.

William died unmarried on 10 July 2018 and was buried in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.^{[2] [7] [6] [4] [5] [3] [2] [1]}
