Sarah Sprague was the sixth child and second daughter of Anthony Sprague and Elizabeth Bartlett born on May 23, 1674 in Hingham, Massachusetts. [1]
The 2004 edition of the Warren Mayflower Silver Book confirms that Sarah Sprague and Caleb Bates had only one child:
There is no documentation that links Sarah Bates Burr to Sarah Sprague Bates being her mother.
Confusion between Sarah Bates married to Elisha Burr and Sarah Sprague who married Caleb Bates and thus became Sarah Sprague Bates continues-
"Yet time and again these volumes are used as a source reference for Sarah Bates d. Jul 1790 in Hingham, who married Elisha Burr. It is in Burr's family genealogy that Sarah's vital records are shown.
It seems evident that a Sarah Bates was conceived and born (1716) out of wedlock. Sarah's birth and the marriage of Caleb and Sarah (1716) coincide."[citation needed]
