Biography

William was the fourth child of five born to Hezekiah and Typhenia Sprague on March 22, 1837.

He married twice. First to Tryphene Blackman (sometimes spelled Tryphenia or Triphenia) on February 19, 1764. They had six children:

1. Tryphena, b. 16 Mar 1767, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA, USA, d. 18 Oct 1824, Gardner, Worcester Co., MA, USA (Age 57 years); 2. William, b. 27 Apr 1769, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA, USA, d. 25 Apr 1821, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA (Age 51 years); 3. Katherine, b. 13 Nov 1770, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA, d. Yes, date unknown; 4. Elizabeth, b. 11 Feb 1773, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA, d. 20 Apr 1854 (Age 81 years); 5. Capt. Jason, b. 12 May 1775, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA, d. 24 Nov 1818, Wardsboro, Windham Co., VT, USA (Age 43 years); 6. Eunice, b. 14 Oct 1777, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA. d. yes date unknown.

Tryohene died in July, 1780 leaving William with small children to raise. William married Joanna Barron in May, 1781. They had one daughter Sally in March, 1782.

William died in Templeton Massachusetts in February, 1782, a month before his daughter Sally was born.

He is buried at the Center Burial Ground, Templeton, Worcester Co., MA, USA

According to ◦"The Ralph Sprague Genealogy", by E. G. Sprague, page 75:

April 24, 1782. The will mentioned his widow Joanna and all of the children. On October 21, 1783, Ebenezer Wright was appointed guardian for Katherine, Elizabeth and Tryphena, and on the same date, Samuel Cook was appointed guardian for Jason and Eunice. Ebenezer French was appointed guardian of William on October 21, 1783, and Joanna Sprague was appointed guardian of Sally the same day.
