DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

The convict in question came from Dublin on the "Waterloo" in 1830 or 1831. He was transferred to the Sydney prison in 1838.

I've been trying to figure out how this lot got to Australia, especially so early. There was a 16 year old James Spring who was sent to NSW as a convict in 1831 (aged 16). I have the scans of the goal records on my Ancestry page. I haven't yet found anything on the Irish side with the crime or conviction info.
