James Spring was born around 1839 in Caldicott, Monmouthshire, England, the son of Hannah and Thomas Spring.^[1][2][3][4]

He married Martha Jones in 1869 in Pontypool, Monmouthshire.^[5][3] Their children were:

• Frederick Spring (1874?–?)^[3][6]
• John Spring (1877?–?)^[3][6]

James died in 1882 in Newport, Monmouthshire.^[7]
