Elijah Spring was born on 6 August 1844 in the United States, the son of Rachel Darby and Adam Spring.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
He married Elizabeth Gatton on 3 March 1870 in Franklin, Ohio.[7] Their children were:
During the Civil War, Elijah served with Company C, Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI).[8]
Elijah died on 22 December 1922 in West Jefferson, Madison, Ohio.[5] His remains were interred at Alton Cemetery, Franklin County, Ohio.[6]
Whilst Adam is recorded Elijah's father on Elijah's death record,[5] I have noted his paternity biologically uncertain because in the 1880 and 1900 censuses Elijah was said to be the son of a man born in Virginia,[3][4] but in the 1860 Census, Adam's birthplace is noted Pennsylvania,[1] also a 2002 post on an Ancestry.com forum states that Elijah was not Adam's son,[9] and Adam and Rachel did not marry until 1852, which seems late given Elijah was born around 1844.
Birthplace in 1880 Census is Ohio,[3] in 1900 Census it is Virginia,[4] in death record it is West Virginia.[5]
