Biography

Sarah Charlotte Sprinkle was born 7 Sep 1849 in Oil Township, Perry County, Indiana to parents Michael Sprinkle II and Julia Ann James.[1]

In the 1850 US Census, the Sprinkle Family was living in Leopold, Perry county, Indiana and included parents Michael and Julia with children: Mary Ann, John and Charlotte.[2]

In the 1860 US Census, the Sprinkle family was living in Oil Township, Perry county, Indiana and included parents Michael and Julia with children: Mary, John, Sarah, James, Michael III, and Fornetta J. (Antoinette Jane)[3]

In the 1870 US Census, the Sprinkle family was living once again in Oil Township, Indiana. Included in the family were parents Michael and Julia with the following children: John, Sarah, James W, Michael III, Fornetta J (Antoinette Jane) and Susan E.[4]

On 7 Dec 1876, Sarah married Anthony Rohl in Perry County, Indiana.[5]

Sarah and Anthony had the following children:

  • Charles E Rohl, born 22 Sep 1877; died 22 Aug 1879
  • Mary Lee Rohl, born 16 Feb 1880

In the 1880 US Census, Sarah and Anthony were living in Oil, Perry, Indiana.[6] No mention is made of baby Mary in this census.

Sarah and Anthony had more children:

  • Cora Ellen, born 4 July 1884
  • Carmen L, born 22 June 1887; died 5 Sep 1888 (daughter)
  • Julia Elizabeth Rohl, born 8 Oct 1890
  • Virgie Ruth Rohl, born 9 Sep 1892

Sarah's father died Sep 1887 and her mother died Oct 1900.

In the 1900 US Census, Sarah and Anthony were again in Oil, Perry, Indiana with the following children: Mary, Cora, Julia and Virgie Ruth. Anthony was a farmer. Sarah stated she had had 7 children with 4 living by this time.[7]

Evelyn Rohl is listed as another daughter, born 1903 in Indiana, in the 1910 US Census. I suspect that Evelyn was actually a granddaughter; possibly an illegitimate daughter of Mary Lee Rohl. In 1903, Sarah would have been 49 years old. Also, Evelyn was living with Mary lee in following census' as a daughter. In the 1910 Census, Sarah lists herself as only having 7 children, 4 living. This is the same as the 1900 US Census.

In the 1910 Census, Anthony and Sarah were living in Pascoe, Okmulgee, Oklahoma with 2 of their daughters and possibly a granddaughter: Mary Lee, Vergie Ruth and Evelyn.[8]

Sarah and Anthony were living in Mounds, Creek, Oklahoma in the 1920 US Census; close to daughters Ruth and Cora Ellen.[9]

Sarah's husband, Anthony, died 26 Feb 1921. In the 1930 US Census, Sarah was living with her daughter Ruth and Ruth's family: husband Clyde Gillian and children: Maude and Lloyd. They were living in Pascoe, Okmulgee, Oklahoma. [10]

Sarah died 12 July 1930 in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. She was buried in Beggs Cemetery, Beggs, Oklahoma.[1]
