"Philippe Lambert Joseph Spruyt ( 3 April 1727 - Ghent , 5 May 1801 ) was a Flemish draftsman , painter , engraver and author .
He was the son of a soldier and was admitted at a young age in the studio of Jan Millet in Brussels . Later he took lessons in Paris, with Charles van Loo . From 1757 he spent some time in Rome , where he received lessons from Anton Raphael Mengs , among others . After returning to the Netherlands, he settled in Brussels again.
On 16 May 1770 he was appointed as the first professor or tutor the figure at the academy of drawing and painting in Ghent. In 1794 a publication by Spruyt was published by the academy, entitled Konstlievende Mongelingen."
