Biography

Alfred Ernest Squires was born in the time period between 1844 and 1846 in Newton Longville, Buckinghamshire, England, according to the 1851 Census. He was the son of Sarah Squires and Joseph Squires. He was known by his second name Ernest. No birth registration nor baptism can be found for him in either Bedfordshire where his elder brother, Harry, was baptised nor in Buckinghamshire where his other siblings were born. On the 1851 Census, Ernest is listed as being 5 years of age, making 1846 his birthyear.

Ernest was the second of five sons born to Joseph and Sarah in England. Three more sons were born in Australia.
