After the death of her mother in 1881, she & her two brothers Charles & Herbert were cared for by their aunt, Elizabeth Sarah Rowland [nee Squires] in Homebush.

In 1884 Amy Louisa moved to Swan Hill with her father and siblings to live at Stony Crossing where in 1880 her father had selected land.

In 1892 the family moved to Tyntynder.

After finishing her schooling at Tyntynder South School she trained as a nurse at Inglewood Hospital.

She nursed also at Bendigo after her training & later also at a private hospital in Swan Hill. She was then appointed to the position of Matron at a number of hospitals including Wycheproof, Dunolly, Warrnambool, Yarram, Castlemaine and Maryborough, she had a very wide experience in the Nursing Profession.

She married late in life and there were no children by either of her marriages. For many years prior to her death she lived in Surrey Hills, Melbourne.
