Biography

John Squire was born in the Town of Bridport, Dorset, England.

John was born on the 12 April 1786, and baptized on the 1 May 1786 at the Parish Church of St. Mary, South Street, in the Market Town of Bridport, Bridport Parish, inland from the English Channel near the confluence of the River Brit and its tributary the Asker, in Dorset, England. On his birth record, his surname is misspelt "Squires"^[1][2]. He was the son of John Squire and Mary Way.

Cordwainer, John married Edith Hounsell on the 20 February 1805 at the Holy Trinity Church, Village Road, Village of Bradpole, Bradpole Parish, near the Town of Bridport, Dorset, England^[3]. During their marriage, they were blessed with children:--

In 1841, Shoemaker, John (55) and Edith (55) lived in Irish Lane, Town of Bridport, Bridport Parish, Dorset, England^[14]. By 1851, John "Squires" (65) and Edith (68) have moved to Rope Walks, Town of Bridport, Dorset. They reside there with their daughter Elizabeth (Squire) Bartlett (39); grandson, George (Bartlett) (1)and Lodgers, Sarah (18), Sarah (19) and Mary (Miller) (17) and Margaret (Baker) (16)^[15].

However, John lost Edith in 1859, and in 1861, John (75) worked as a Card Winder to support himself at St. Michael's, in the Town of Bridport, Dorset, England^[16]. John "Squires" passed away between October and December 1871, in the Town of Bridport, Dorset, England. The cause of his death is unknown, but he was 85 years old when he passed, so I presume it to be old age^[17].
