Marie de Saint-Étienne de La Tour was born about 1654 to parents Charles Saint-Étienne (de La Tour) and Jeanne Motin de Reux (widow of Charles de Menou D'Alnay).[1] She was the eldest of a family of five.
About 1675, Marie married Alexandre Le Borgne, Sieur de Belle-Isle, the son of Emmanuel Le Borgne and Jeanne François. She gave birth to seven children: Emmanuel (c1676), Marie (c1677), Alexandre (c1679), Jeanne (c1682), Charles (c1685), Marie-Françoise (c1688), and Anne (c1690)[1].
In 1686, at Port-Royal, Daelle. Marie de ST. ESTIENNE, aged 32, was living with her husband, Le Sr. Alexandre LE BORGNE seigneur du lieu, aged 43 [born 1643], and their four children: Emanuel [sic], aged 11, Marie [sic], aged 9, Alexandre, aged 7, and Jeanne [sic], aged 5. "Also in the household was Estienne AUCHER [HACHE'?], domestic, aged 13. Their weapons, lands, cattle, and sheep were not listed, as were all others."[2][3]
Marie became the seigneuresse of Port-Royal after the death of her husband, Alexandre Le Borgne, sometime between 1689 and 1692. She allotted and sold land holdings and managed the finances of the seigneurie. Her name appeared in many contracts and petitions.[4]
In 1693, at Port Royal, Marie de St. Estienne, aged 38, widow, was living with her 7 children: Emanuel [sic] LEBORGNE [sic], aged 17, Marie [sic], aged 15, Alexandre, aged 13, Jeanne [sic], aged 11, Charles, aged 8, Marie Francoise, aged 5, and Anne, aged 3. She was the owner of 13 cattle, 15 sheep, 20 pigs, 31 arpents of cultivable land, and 2 guns.[5]
Marie continued to live in Port-Royal with her children and did not remarry as shown in the censuses of 1698[6] , 1700[7], 1703[8],and 1707[9].
Marie died on May 28th, 1739, at age 87. She was buried two days later, on May 30th, 1739. The priest on record was Father De St. Poncy de La Vernède and Denis St. Seine, Louis Robichaux, François Robichaux and René Richard were witnesses[1][10].

In the original 1686 census at Port Royal, Emmanuel was listed as Emanuel, Marie Madeleine was listed as just Marie, and Marie Jeanne was listed as just Jeanne. Estienne Aucher’s age was listed as 13 in the original census but omitted in the transcription.

In the original 1693 census at Port Royal, Emmanuel was listed as Emanuel, Le Borgne was listed as le Borgne but transcribed as LEBORGNE, Marie Madeleine was listed as just Marie, and Marie Jeanne was listed as just Jeanne.
