Biography

Nathaniel was born about 1808, based on his age at death.

He married Martha Mills in 1831[1].

They had three children, Joseph (b. 1832), Elizabeth (b. 1834) and Thomas (b. 1835, d. 1837) before Martha died in 1839[2].

At the time of 1841 Census, Nathaniel was living in Oldham, Lancashire with his children Joseph (9) and Elizabeth (5), and Sarah Mills (25) and Peter Mills (23), likely his sister-in-law and brother-in-law[3].

Nathaniel remarried in 1841 to Jane Smith[4].

Nathaniel emigrated to New Zealand on the Duchess of Argyle in 1842, with wife Jane and daughter Elizabeth[5].

In New Zealand they had three further children, Georgina, William and Nathaniel.

Nathaniel died in 1883[6][7], and is buried in Symonds Street Cemetery in Auckland[8].
