Biography

Lovisa is born at Alströms bruk in Alster parish, Värmland county, Sweden, on August 10, 1841 and was christened on August 14. She was the daughter of "Mästersven" (blacksmith assistant) Carl Ståhl and his wife Cajsa Eliasdotter in Alstrum.[1]

Birth book

It seems her family moved between Mo parish in Älvsborg county and Alster parish in Värmland. [2] [3] The distance between the parishes is about 80 kilometers.

She has at least 3 siblings:
Britta Lisa born 1835
Johan born 1838 in Mo parish
Johanna Maria born 1844
In the image below is also listed August Jonsson/Jönsson that might be a halfbrother?

Household book

At the time of her marriage Lovisa was living in Mo parish, Älvsborg county, Sweden. The household book states she was born in Mo but that must be a mistake of the priest or clerk who wrote it. She has siblings born in Mo, perhaps that's where the mistake comes from.

She marries Enoch Eld May 28, 1871. The wedding book tells us that they both worked at Forsbacka when they married. Lovisa is listed as Lovisa Olsdotter and her father is listed as Carl Stål. [4] This does not make sense - if she was the daughter of Carl she would have been named Carlsdotter. In the household books she is listed as Lovisa Stål.

Lovisa and Enoch have 6 children;
Elin, born in Mo June 16, 1871
Johan Albert, born in Mo November 19, 1872
Adolf, born in Mo December 20, 1874
Oskar Alfred born in Mo July 27, 1877
Ottilia is born in By-Säffle, July 20, 1879
Axel Götrik is born in By-Säffle, September 26, 1881

The family moved to Norway in 1877 and when returning to Sweden in 1878 they settle in By-Säffle parish in the county of Värmland.

The whole family leaves By-Säffle parish on August 17, 1883 with the destination North America.

According to registers at emiweb.eu (subscription required) the sons last names are listed as Enochsson Eld and the daughters last names as Enochsdotter Eld. Enoch is listed as Enok. Lovisa/Louisa died in Pittsburgh, Jan. 19, 1917 and is buried at Homewood Cemetery. Find a grave: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=90879020

Louisa Stahl or Andersdotter ... [5] There is no indication in the Swedish church books that she had the name Andersdotter.

Please be advised that Lovisas last name at birth should not be Stahl but Ståhl.

I will disconnect the profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Eliasdotter-63 as her mother and spouse of Carl Ståhl and add a new profile with the correct information.

Will be happy to add you as manager of Eliasdotter-115, just go to the profile and ask to be on the trusted list and I will then remove myself as manager.
