William was born at Byrdstown in Pickett County, Tennessee on May 25, 1883. He was the son of Newton Jasper Stailey and Eunice Belle ( Story ) Stailey . He married Abbie Ellis on December 20, 1903 in Scott County, Tennessee, after she passed away in 1917 he married Alva Latham on September 25, 1918 in Scott County. William worked as a farmer and passed away from tuberculosis on March 17, 1935 at Oneida in Scott County.
