Biography

Walter Staley lived in Appalachia, in Maryland.

Walter was born in 1891. He is the son of Elijah Pearson Staley and Virginia Isabelle Snavely. He died in 1966.

Boonsboro --- WALTER J. STALEY, 74, formerly of Tampa, Florida, died suddenly at the Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home here Saturday evening. He was born in Rural Retreat, Va., the son of the late Tierson and Virginia Snavely Staley.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Rural Retreat. Staley was a graduate of Roanoke Colege, Roanoke, Va., and taught at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pa., for 37 years. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa national honoroary fraternity and a veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Goldie Miller Staley; three daughters, Mrs. Corgie Grubs, Vinita, Okla.; Mrs. Mida Hammond, Roanoke; and Mrs. Inez S. Brooks, St. Paul, Minn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro; burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The obituary has the following errors: survived by three daughters - but it should say three sisters. Also his father's name is Pierson - not Tierson.
