Research Notes

Diane and Brad, I happened to notice your request for information on a Thomas Montraville Davenport. I have been searching for my Davenport line for numerous years. I have no records before 1812 in Tenn. My Joseph Davenport b. June 1789 (I'm told in Va.) arrived with his wife Mary Thomas b. March 31, 1789, (she also I'm told was born in Va.). They were married I'm told possibly in VA. Or in Tenn. on April 16, 1812. Have no record of marriage nor where the marriage took place. Word has it they arrived in Tenn. via Ill. I also have census records that show them in Jackson County Tenn. in 1820 along with his brothers Henry, and James. In 1830 James, Henry, Charles, and their mother Elizabeth (age 60-80) were in Jackson Co. but Joseph was not. Joseph had left so time between 1820-1830. Brother John was in Franklin County, Tenn. in 1830. I have Joseph in Smith County, Tenn. 1839. They moved to DeKalb County, Ala. 1839-40. They had numerous children. Nine who lived to maturity. (After Joseph's wife died in 1849 he married a Barbara Stallings b. ? d. April 23, 1876. They were married on October 1, 1860. They had no children of record). One of the children born to Joseph and Mary was Montraville Davenport born May 4, 1821, d. Nov. 17, 1890. Married Dec. 20, 1843 to Amelia Easter McSpadden. Montraville Davenport was a Major in the Confederate Cavalry under General Forest until he surrendered in 1865 at Salem, Ala. According to records he had two sons who also were in the Confederate Army. They were Thaddeus and Glen Davenport. I don't have any other information about he or his family but could possibly get more. Montraville was my Great Great Uncle. Montraville was the older brother of my Great Great Grandfather Rodolphus Davenport. Rodolphus was b August 8, 1823, and d. Sept 18, 1870. The real interesting thing was your Thomas's middle name of Montraville. Where did that name come from? Please get back in touch. Thanks Joanne
