Biography

Mary (Stanard) Sewards was a homesteader in Michigan. Join the Homesteaders Project.

The daughter of Daniel Stanard and Lucinda (Glass) Stanard, Mamie was born in Porter Township in 1869.[1][2][3] Her siblings included:

  1. Emory Eldoras (1855-1887)
  2. Sarah Theodora (1857-1930)
  3. James Leroy (1859-1928)
  4. Blanche Iona (1862-1916)
  5. Lydia Almira (1863-1918)
  6. William Loren (1866-1929)
  7. Lenore A. (1873-1938)

She married Benjamin Sewards, a recent immigrant from England, in Marcellus Township, in Cass County, Michigan on November 5, 1887.[4] Their children included:

  1. Cora Mae (1891-1984)
  2. Edna Marie (1903-1984)
  3. Gladys Lucille (1908-2004)
  4. George Samuel (1911-1987)

They made their home, homesteading, in Newburg Township, Michigan, in Cass County.[5][6][7][8][9] Mamie passed away in Porter Township at the age of 80[10][11] and is buried at Poe Township in Cass County.[12]
