Biography

Mehitable was the daughter of Josiah Standish and Sarah (perhaps Cary).^[1] She was probably born between 1690 and 1705, probably in Preston, Connecticut. Her name may also be spelled Mehitabel or Mehetabel.

Mehitable Standish married Jabez Rood about 1716.^[2]

Mehetabel, wife of Jabez Rood, was admitted to the First Congregational Church of Norwich in 1722.^[3] Her daughter Mehetabel was baptized in this church in 1722.

Mehetabe Rood was admitted to the Congregational Church in Lisbon, Connecticut in 1724 from the 1st Church of Norwich.^[4] Children Josiah Standish, Jeremiah, Lydia and Eunice were baptized in this church.

She died before 24 April 1743.^[5]

The will of Eleazer Standish was dated 4 Jun 1755 and proved 24 Jun 1755 named his sister Jehoden Standish; the heirs of his sister Mehitabel Rood, deceased; sister Sarah Howard; sister Mary Perkins; and Israel Standish, son of Miles Standish.^[6][7]

The estate of Jehoden Standish^[8] was distributed about 31 Aug 1768 among her sisters Thomas and Sarah Howard, Hannah (Tosten?) Howard, and Mary Perkins and the children of Jabez and her sister Mehitable Rood, deceased, including Rufus Rood, Josiah Standish Rood, Jeremiah Rood, Lydia last name unknown, Benjamin and Eunice Day.
