Name: Standley, John P. Date: Jul 25 1938 Source: Source unknown; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #077. Notes: Standley: John P., 18128 Ponciana ave., husband of Beatrice A. (deceased) and beloved father of Mrs. Melba Haviland, grandfather of Nelson, jr., and Jean, passed away July 24, 1938. Now at the Koebler Funeral Home, 1966 E. 82d, at Euclid ave. Services there Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p. m.[1] [This has been independently verified to be a death notice in the Plain Dealer]

John's Oil City funeral notice says:

" Funeral services for John P. Standley, 18128 Ponciana ave., Cleveland, Ohio, who died Sunday [24JUL1938], were conducted at the Koebler funeral home in Cleveland.

The deceased was born February 26, 1859, the son of John and Catherine Fox Standley of Standley's Corners. He was well known in Oil City, having worked for the Oakwood Rose Gardens when they first began business in Oil City. After he moved to Cleveland, he was a frequent visitor in Oil City and vicinity.

He married Miss Beatrice Lucas of Franklin July 4, 1892, who preceded him in death on October 17, 1933. A daughter, Mrs. Melba Haviland, and two grandchildren, Nelson Jr. and Jean, survive. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Emma Perry of Oil City and Mrs. Ida Sager of Diamond.

Interment was in the family plot in the Cleveland cemetery with the following nephews as pallbearers: Willis, George, Edwin, Roy and Milton Stephens and Andrew Perry."

[NOTE: the marriage date is off, and Milton Stephens is actually a great nephew (a son of Willis).]
