See Margaret's obituary supplied by Rebecca Calman in July 2018 for additional information, including Jeptha's death date.
1830-1850
The Standley, Stanly, Stanley mish-match of spellings is common. See Dempsey Standley-172 for all other known information. The 1850 Census shows Jeptha at age 20 living with his father and step-mother in Iowa.
~1854 Marriage
No record located. According to https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/S1B5-VL5, Jeptha marries Margaret Curtis January 5, 1851 in Appanoose County, Iowa. According to Margaret's obituary, the year would have been 1854
1860 Census
See Photo. Indicating again the close ties between the Standley and Warford families, Jeptha and Margaret live immediately next door to the Warford son, John, who was also born in Indiana about the same year as Jeptha. On the other side there is a Sarah Curtis as head of house. This may be Margaret's widowed or divorced mother and the sons, John & George, may be her younger brothers. Jeptha and Margaret's first known child, Sarah, could be named after this potential mother or could be named after Jeptha's sister. According to https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/S1B5-VL5, there was a third child born to the young couple in 1856. This daughter, Barbra, passed away prior to the 1860 census. I will list this but have no other verification. Clarisa shown here will be called Caroline throughout the rest of the Census years.
Name: Jeptha Standly
Event Place: Independence Township, Appanoose, Iowa, United States
See Photo. Jeptha & Margaret are still settled in Iowa and farming. Most of the Standley's, Warford's, Faugn's, Banks and other related families have made their way to and settled in Kansas. Three more children are added to the family.
See photo. Between 1880 and 1885, Sarah, Caroline & Laura have moved out and are probably married but definitely not listed in the household.
Family #47 has a Caroline B. about the right age and and birthplace married to John YOUNG.--further looks into 1900 seems to show that birth year will not work.
Alex and Arvena are already living in Courtland, Republic, KS. I haven't found any of the other children or where Jeptha & Margaret are after scanning the 1900 Cortland KS and Independence Iowa censuses.
1910 Census
See Photo. Jeptha is retired and living on his 'own income'. He and Margaret live immediately next door to Arvena and her husband John. See Sarah Standley-192 1910 notes for additional relatives in the area.
