William Stanfield, husband of Jane Dent, and father of Edmund Stanfield, was born in Yorkshire, England in 1800.
- "Upon arriving at maturity, [he] engaged as a flax-grower and a dealer in that article, doing a large business for the last thirty years of his life. For three generations the Stanfields had been engaged in that industry in their native shire, the business terminating with [his] death in 1874." [1]
