Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordination is essential and project participation is strongly encouraged. I'm here to help you find a project related to your current research focus.
Think about the particular time periods, locations, and topics in which you are interested. Do you have historically-significant ancestors? The list of <nowiki>active Pre-1700 Projects</nowiki> may give you some ideas.
If you see one that is just right, go ahead and join. Otherwise, let me know what you are looking for and I will see what I can find.
Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:
Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.
We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.
And we're always looking for volunteers to assist in different ways.
As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!
Matt~ WikiTree Mentor
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Not sure what to include in a profile? Check out our Biography Ideas and Styles and Standards help pages.
Looking for a specific person? Try under find and enter the name you are looking for (with dates if you have them).
It is very important to you (and to others) that you include as much bio info about each individual as possible & dont forget the need for sources. You will come to appreciate the need for this background info and sources as you continue with WikiTree.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. John Beeson WikiTree Mentor
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Thanks for offering to help with our shared tree :)
Hello! I am interested in growing my family tree and contributing to yours! I have done very little of this until 2 weeks ago when I did the free trial on ancestory.com. Quite time consuming...I could see that I wasn't going to be able to afford the fees for the period it was going to require to develop an accurate tree, which is what brought me here.
To help you find your way, the help pages and search features can be accessed through the links on the upper right hand corner of almost any page. Feel free to post a question in the G2G Forum or on a relevant profile page.
