Biography

John Francis Stanford was born on 15 Jan 1778 in Somerset, Maryland to parents Joshua Stanford and Mary Rook. He married Delila "Nancy" Ruark on 20 Sep 1798 in Maryland. Children: Nancy Ellen, Matilda, Letitia, Mary, James, Malvina, Noah, John, Delila, Joshua, Joseph. He died on 24 Sep 1860 in Marion, Mississippi, according to the Bible of John Stanford Jr. cited in "The John Stanford Family of Marion County, Mississippi."

John served in the US Army during the War of 1812 as an Ensign in the 3rd Regiment (Few's) of the Georgia Militia.

John's middle name was Francis. He had a daughter named Delilah, after her mother. Not sure if that might be an alternate name for Matilda.
