Biography

Dorothy Rosaltha Stang was born 14 August 1918 in Pennsylvania, USA. She was a daughter of Arthur Carl Stang and Helen Lloyd Wilson. Her middle name comes from her paternal grandmother, Rosaltha Mossburg Stang, who died 15 years before Dorothy was born. Her older siblings were:

1920s

In 1920, Dorothy Stang (1) lived in Ridley, Delaware County, Pennsylvania with her father Arthur C (38), mother Helen L (28), older brother David H (11), older sister Alberta (9), older brother Arthur C Jr (5), grandfather David H Wilson (62), and grandmother Laura A Wilson (59). [1]

On 29 Jun 1925, her brother Howard Lloyd Stang was born in Folsom, Ridley Township.

In 1930, Dorothy Stang (11) lived in Ridley with her father Arthur (49), mother Helen (39), older brother David (21), younger brothers Arthur (16), Howard (4), younger sister Helen Marilyn (2), and grandmother Laura Wilson (60). [2]

In 1935, she lived in Folsom.

She married Laird Chambers. Laird was born 15 May 1916 in Pennsylvania and the son of Alexander and Jennie Laird Chambers.

In 1940, Dorothy Chambers (21) lived in Collingdale Borough, Delaware County with her husband Laird (23) and father-in-law Alexander (58). [3]

On 16 Oct 1940, Mrs Dorothy Rosaltha Chambers and her husband Laird Alexander Chambers (24) lived at Clifton & Bedford Ave in Collingdale. He had been born 15 May 1916 in Philadelphia, a US citizen. He was employed by J G Brill Co located at 62nd and Woodland streets in Philadelphia. He waswhite, 5'7.75", 180 pounds, with blue eyes, blond hair, and a light/ruddy complexion. [4]

On 17 Nov 1946, her father Arthur Stang Sr died in Delaware County.

They moved to Audubon, New Jersey.

1950s

On 1 Apr 1950, Dorothy R Chambers (31) lived in Audubon Borough, Camden County, New Jersey with her husband Laird A (33) and son Steven A (7). They did not live on a farm and their property was less than three acres. They were white and born in Pennsylvania. Laird worked 40 hours last week as a foreman in the testing department for a television factory. [5]

In January 1955, she attended a surprise bridal shower for her sister Janet Stang. [6]

Passed away on November 21, 2012, (nee Stang).

Beloved wife of the late Laird and dear mother of Alan (Lauren) Chambers of Pennsauken and Stephen (Nancy) Chambers of Gibbsboro. Dear sister of Janet Elliott, Marilyn Herbert and Howard Stang, loving grandmother of Brian, Cheryl, Mark and Danny; Great-grandmother of Stephen, Jennifer, Timothy, Samantha, Vanessa and Aaron.

Relatives and friends of the family are kindly invited to attend her Visitation Saturday 1-2: PM (12/1/2012) at the FUNERAL HOME OF INGLESBY & SONS, 2426 Cove Road. Pennsauken NJ 08109. Funeral Service Saturday 2 PM. Cremation private. In lieu of flowers donations to Immanuel Baptist Church, 6 East Main Street, Maple Shade, NJ 08052 preferred.

Mr. Stang was born in Philadelphia and had lived in Ogden, Upper Chichester, for five years and in Woodlyn, Ridley Township for 15 years before moving to Delaware a year and a half ago. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Ridley Township; Prospect Lodge No. 578, F&AM, Prospect Park; the Philadelphia Shrine Club and the Del Valley Compass Club. Surviving are his widow, the former Lucille E. Sides; two sons, David H. Jr., of Ridley Township, and S-Sgt. Raymond Stang of Fort Bragg, N.C.; a daughter, Lois at home; his mother, Mrs. Helen Lloyd Stang of Pitman, N.J.; two brothers, Arthur C. and Howard L., both of Boothwyn, Upper Chichester; five sisters, Mrs. Alva Siter, Coatesville, Mrs. Dorothy Chambers of Audubon, N.J., Mrs. Marilyn Archut of Ashland, N.J., Mrs. Eleanor Tait of Pitman, N.J., and Mrs. Janet Elliott of Chester County; and three grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Melvin I. Minshall Funeral Home, Middletown and Knowlton Roads, Middletown. Burial will be in Edgewood Memorial Park, Concord. Survivors include her husband, Donald Wadsworth of Port St. Lucie; brother, Howard Stang of Boothwyn, Pa.; sisters, Marilyn Herbert of Williamston, N.J., Janet Elliott of East Goshen, Pa., and Dorothy Chambers of Delair, N.J.; sons, Robert Wadsworth of Tampa and Richard Tait of Port St. Lucie; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by brothers, David Stang and Arthur Stang and by a sister, Alva Siter. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. May 5 at the chapel of Yates Funeral Home and Crematory, Port St. Lucie, with the Rev. Richard Edwards, associate pastor, the First United Methodist Church, Port St Lucie, officiating.
