Convicted of Homicide December 12, 1861 [John] Stang, a German, residing in Dawsonville, in this county, was committed to jail, on Tuesday last, for the killing of John Lochner, another German, by shooting him. From what we have been able to learn, the circumstances attending the shooting are somewhat as follows: On Monday last, Stang butchered and had Lochner assisting him. Some time during the day Stang and Lochner quarreled, but Lochner remained and assisted until the butchering was got through with, when he went to his home, which was but a short distance from Stang's. Soon after he (Lochner) came out with a bucket in his hand to the pump and Stang seeing him, the quarrel was renewed, when Stang got his rifle and deliberately shot Lochner, killing him instantly. Stang is very badly bruised, but this, we understand, he received after Lochner was shot. They were both under the influence of liquor.
