In our paper of the 31st we noticed the return to his father's house and sickness of our young friend W.H. Stanley of this vicinity and we now perform the painful duty of recording his death. His disease, which originated from what was supposed to be sunstroke, terminiated in spinal fever, and caused his death, after lingering from about the 25th of Aug. to the 8th inst. and he ws buried on Fri. last. He vonunteered as a private in the Hundred Days service, and was a member of Capt. Mount's company. He was apparently stout and remarkably healthy, when he volunteered in the cause of his country, and bid fair for a long life of usefulness; but, alas! "we know not the day nor the hour" in which we may be called to surrender up our brief lease of life, for we are truly "in the midst of death". We deeply sympathize with hs bereaved parents in their irreparable loss. The age of the deceased was 22 years, 7 months, and 8 days.
He has a military tombstone.
