Winford Ernest Stanley, 81, of Stuart, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born in Patrick County on January 30, 1927, to the late Ernest A. and Alma Stanley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton and Bedford Stanley; and two nephews, Barry W. and Gary Stanley. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Italy. Mr. Stanley was a member of Stuart Baptist Church for many years where he was a deacon and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Board of Directors at First National Bank for many years as well as a member of Stuart Rotary Club and the Patrick Springs VFW Post 7400. He was a Chevrolet dealer in Ferrum and Stuart for 33 years. Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alda Shelor Stanley, of the home; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Eula Marshall, of Laurel Fork, Hava S. Heath, of Claudville, Hester and Wilburn Lynch, of Mount Airy, N.C., Hazel and Johnnie Dunkley, of Stuart, and Guiwana and Lawrence Compton, of Bassett; one brother and sister-in-law, Ledford "Pat" and Carol Stanley, of Meadows of Dan; one sister-in-law, Lucille Stanley, of Claudville; a number of nieces and nephews; and other special family members, Paul and Helen Shelor, of Dublin, James and Glenna Shelor, of Stuart, Willie Wood, of Meadows of Dan, and Lucille Shough, of Patrick Springs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Stuart Baptist Church with Dr. Clint Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, March 28, 2008, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
