Mary STANLEY was born either before 1498 in York, England [2] or 1511 in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England to George STANLEY (B. Strange of Knockin) and Joan STRANGE (10° B. Strange of Knockin).[3]

She married John De HARDY (b. BEF 1510 - d. ABT 1543/1546)[4] about 1525 in England.[5]

"Lady Mary de Stanley married Sir John de Hardy, Lord Mayor of London. Mary's ancestry included lords, ladies, the Dukes of Earl and of Westmorland, princes, barons, and seven kings of Scotland (from the years 942 to 1214). Her son: Micheal de Hardy.

One of these sovereigns was King Duncan I MacCrinin, murdered by Macbeth on 14 August 1040. Other of Lady Mary's ancestors were John de Lacie, Magna Carta Baron, and William Malet, twenty-fourth in descent from Clovis, Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset, and also a Magna Carta Baron. Yet another of her family was Henry de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Magna Carta Baron, fifth in line of descent from King Malcolm III of Scotland, and who died on pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1220.

Lady Mary was also lineally descended from Humphrey de Bohun VIII, Earl of Hereford and of Essex, Constable of England, born 1276 and slain 1332, and who married Isabel Plantagenet, daughter of King Edward I of England and Eleanor of Castile. through their parentage on the distaff side, the Hardys could thus trace their lineage to King Edward. Through her descent from Lady Joan, daughter of John of Gaunt (son of King Edward III), they were likewise doubly lineal descendants of that monarch. Sir John de Hardy, Lord Mayor of London, by his marriage alliance to the de Stanleys, thus gave the future Hardys of this union claim to royal blood, no matter how distant and diluted, for seven Scottish sovereigns and the two King Edwards were no mean ancestral boasts..."[6]

I am a descendant of John de Hardy (1446-1511) of East Riding of Yorkshire, if anyone has any information on the Hardy Lineage Mary Stanley, Margaret Muir, Lady Margaret De La Pole and the house of York please contact me. I have so many questions and very few answers! Thank You!

I recently went to my local library and looked up the Stanley lineage, the Pole lineage and the Neville lineage (all Noble family lines the Hardy family is supposedly connected to) in Burke's Peerage & Baronetege. Unfortunately, I found no documentation of Mary Stanley marrying John Hardy; no documentation of Margaret Pole marrying a John De Hardy. I also looked at the records for the Lord Mayor of London, which can now be viewed online. It has no John Hardy ever listed as a Lord Mayor of London, although there is a John Hardy listed as a Sheriff of London.
After this discovery, I went back to various Hardy genealogy sites to try and figure out where the information about the Hardy family's distant relationship to British royalty is coming from. I found that every documented source I found was the book by James E. Kibbler, Fields of Our Fathers, which is NOT a historical record, it's a historical fiction novel! -->

The connection to any Peerage has already been discussed and professional research has shown there is none in the Hardy line and no Magna Charta connection.
