The Pall Mall Gazette (London, England), Wednesday,. August 6, 1879; Issue 4510. "Major General William Dacres Stanley, late Madras. Staff Corps, died at Bath a few days ago, in his. fifty sixth year. He entered the army in December. 1840, and served at Ungool in 1847 and 1848. He. became colonel in 1871 and major general in 1874".
