From the Archives Division of the Indiana Commission on Public Records: Andrew J. Stanley enrolled as a private of Company B, 42nd Regt Indiana Volunteers (drafted) and mustered in at Richmond, Indiana on 27 Sept 1864 for a one year term by Capt. Kinley. Age 30 (36), blue eyes, sandy hair, 5' 9", fair complexion, born Wayne County, Indiana, occupation - laborer, mustered out in Louisville, Kentucky 18 June 1865.

From his widow's pension file application #503953 filed 9 Mar 1891 in Kansas: Spouse: Hannah Stanley; he was mustered out of his regiment at Lexington, Kentucky on 18 June 1865 but never returned home to Indiana; she made inquiries about him for years but eventually presumed him dead and asked for a pension. The war dept notes he left sick at Charleston, Tenn on June 30, 1865, but had no medical records for him.

Died After his discharge from the war on June 18, 1865.
