Biography

William B. Stanley was the husband of Jermina Ann (Champlin) Stanley and they had two sons, Myron D. and Jedediah M. Stanley. He lived on the family farm in Henderson, New York. Family history and notes indicate that William B. acquired the farm from Jermina's father Clark Champlin. As of April 8, 2023 no definitively links have been found to identify William B.'s father or mother.

My research suggests that William B. Stanley's father may have been Jedediah Stanley (Stanley-9520) who moved to New York with his father (John) and brother (Daniel) about 1802 and purchased land in the town of Rutland, NY. Any information regarding William B. Stanley's parents, spouse(s) and any children of Jedediah (Stanley-9520) would be of great interest to me. William B. Stanley may also be the brother of Frederick Swan Stanley (research information from William Anton Stanley, prior to his death in 2022).

Thanks for the encouragement. I've start one of the lines and will be adding at least another 2 or three that I am aware of. All of these Stanleys seem to have lived in Jefferson County, NY since at least the early 1800s arriving around 1800 to 1804 (from New Hampshire or Vermont).

Once again, thanks for the push, I'll look forward to seeing if this happens to bear fruit in extending/linking my line to others in the vicinity.

FamilySearch sets his father as Nathan Stanley but this seems to be an incorrect conflation with William B. Stanley whose gravestone photo on FindAGrave clearly shows this other William was born in 1823 and died in 1876. Beware not to follow this erroneous internet rumor.

Thanks Phillip,

I'm aware of the two William B. Stanley, my great-great grandfather (Henderson, NY) and the one who is Nathan Stanley's son both buried in Delaware County, New York. I have not yet broken the link between my William B. and Nathan yet on FamilySearch solely because I do not have a replacement identified yet. I have a strong suspicion that my William B.'s father may be Jedediah Stanley who also lived in Henderson, NY (1820 census) and Rutland, NY (1810 census), but so far I cannot find any definitive link. Let me know if you have any additional information or leads that may assist me in the search. Best regards, Bill Stanley

Interesting! My initial instinct was to search for a Myron Stanley in that time & date range based on conventional naming standards of the time period.

My primary reason for posting this info was to discourage others from making the assumption that the 2 William's were the same based on the FamilySearch conflation. I will keep my eyes open for any additional clues as I have a lot of random scraps of Stanley records accumulated while researching my wife's Zachariah Stanley family of VA Quakers.

Thanks Phillip. I appreciate anything you run into. I notice a number of Stanley Family members not represented on WikiTree that have popped up in my research on Jefferson County, New York. I was thinking of adding these (even though they are not yet connected to my own branch) to assist in expanding the data set on early Stanley's in the USA.

Any thoughts? Thanks, Bill

"Thoughts?":

My immediate thought is absolutely, that is a key part of what makes WikiTree fantastic! I can't even begin to count the number of profiles I have created for people "not connected to my family" that have turned out to be a first or second cousin to a known member of my family, that by expanding on their branch, has led me to further information on my family that I would never have found otherwise! If you can connect them to an existing branch of the WikiTree Worldwide Tree, all the better! And if not, the sourced data will go into the Google Search data which may draw in additional descendants that may help you out in the future! If you cannot immediately find a connection with existing profiles to work from, just click the "Add" button at the top, and select "New Person" and proceed from there. Just be sure your data is sourced and as complete as you can, and you will be doing a tremendous service to the WikiTree community. Once the profile is completed, if you'd like, you can remove yourself as manager (but remain on the trusted list) so that you can continue to monitor the status, while encouraging an actual family member to adopt the "orphan" profile. Then you will have an additional researcher that may be able to trade more information with you. So Yes! Absolutely! Put it on your to-do list.
