Biography

Zilpha Jane Stansberry was born on 29 Nov 1839 in Tennessee to Ezekiel Stansberry and Matilda Mulvaney.^{[citation needed][1]}

In 1850, she and her family are living in Polk County, Tennessee, and they are listed with the last name spelling of "Standberry". Zilpha is the oldest of 5 children in the household^[2]

Sometime before 1856, the Stansberrys have moved to Illinois where Zilpha married John Threewitt on 20 Nov 1856 in Marion County, Illinois.^[3]

In 1870, the family continues to live in Marion County, Illinois. They have seven children.^[4]

In 1880, she and John are living in Meacham Township, Marion County, Illinois with their nine children.^[5]

Zilpha died on 1 Jan 1885 in Marion County, Illinois at the age of 45.^[1]

• There is quite a variety of reported birth dates for Zilpha:

  • 1836 Blount, Tennessee, United States.
  • In the 1880 Census, she is using "Jane" as her first name. Her birth year is given as 1840. We have seen anything from 1836 to 1839 for her so far. Her parents are said to have been born in Tennessee.^[5]
  • Her grave marker is difficult to read, but it appears that she died in 1885, and her age in January of that year was 45, meaning that she was probably born in 1839.^[1]
