James (Ewart) Starkey was born on 17 February 1839 at Mangrove Creek, New South Wales, Australia [1], before his parents, Thomas Starkey and Jane Ewart, were married on 27 July 1840. From then on, he was known as James Starkey. His siblings were Thomas Starkey [Elder], Thomas Starkey [Younger] and Esther (Starkey) Watkins, John Starkey, Joseph Starkey, Mary Jane Starkey, Elizabeth Starkey, Eliza Ann (Starkey) Douglass, William Starkey, Emily Starkey and George William Starkey.
He married Mary Ann Cross on 26 July 1859 in Lower Hawkesbury, New South Wales, Australia[2] and their children were Emily Isabella Evangeline (Starkey) Douglass, Charlotte Jane Eliza (Starkey) Maxwell, William Alexander George Starkey, James Edwin Alfred Starkey, Maud (Starkey) Pope, Henry Fenton Starkey, Gladys (Starkey) Boorer and Minnie Starkey.
His wife Mary Ann died on 8 January 1882 and James married her younger sister, Sarah.
James married Sarah Hepzibah Cross, on 26 July 1882 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia [3] and they were the parents of Henry Fenton Starkey, Gladys (Starkey) Boorer and Minnie Starkey.
Sarah previously had one son, Claude Edwin Cross, born on 30 October 1874.
James died 26 December 1910 in Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia[4].
